One question that has plagued me? Where are the healthy recipes for horseradish sauce? It’s enough to keep you up at night.

I love horseradish sauce. It’s readily available in any grocery store. Ever take a look at the ingredients? Soybean oil. High fructose corn syrup. God knows what some of the chemicals are. For those of us attempting to adhere to a healthy food guide, consuming this crap is not good.

The more adventurous of us have attempted to make our own horseradish sauce from scratch. The primary ingredient? Mayo or sour cream. Again, not good.

What’s a healthy person to do? Give up horseradish sauce? No way, because I’m here to tell you about the secret ingredient.

 

THE SECRET INGREDIENT

Greek yogurt. It’s not really that secret, but Greek yogurt makes a fabulous horseradish sauce. Very healthy, too. Greek yogurt is loaded with protein and is very low in calories.

Here’s the recipe:

1 c. Greek plain yogurt
1 1/2 tbsp. horseradish
1 tsp. lemon juice
1/4 tsp. red pepper
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/8 tsp. salt

Just stir and refrigerate. Does it get any easier?Ā 

Use this delicious horseradish sauce on grilled meats or vegetables. Use it as a veggie dip. You can even use it as a condiment for sandwiches. A little messy, but who cares?
